Sassaia of Capriata d\u2019Orba won the Falstaff prize for second best white wine of Piedmont, named after the German trade magazine of international fame for oenology and importers. With the score of 93 points out of 100, Falstaff awarded the prestigious \u201cPiemonte Bianco Trophy 2021\u201d award to Sassaia Derthona Platinum Timorasso which is the result of an extensive collaboration known as \u201cthe Timorasso Project\u201d led by Enrico de Alessandrini, owner of Sassaia, Walter Massa, the godparent of Timorasso, and Pierre Naigeon, fifth generation producer from Gevrey Chambertin which performed and shared several style trial tests with other producers from Colli Tortonesi. On Friday 15 October, the visit to the award-winning wineries, organized by the Italian Farmers Confederation of Alessandria began in Capriata and ended at Villa Sparina, who also received a 93-point recognition for their 2009 Gavi, in Monterotondo. With the wine tasting conducted by brothers Stefano, Massimo and Tiziana Moccagatta, owners of Villa Sparina, and by Enrico De Alessandrini, owner of Sassaia. Both wineries focus on teamwork and de Alessandrini emphasized: \u201cProducing quality wines in the country of my grandparents is a dream come true that could not have been realized without the help of my wife Ellen and of our team\u201d. Enrico de Alessandrini is also a Board member and Corporate Secretary for the Italian American Chamber of Commerce in New York. As a boy he spent his holidays in Capriata in the country home of his grandparents, residing in Genoa.
